Description
Vinyl LP pressing. 2012 debut album from the Atlanta, GA-based quartet. Carrying the weight of the luminance and spacey textures from their 2009 EP, the Death of Day, O'Brother have grown into sounds of scorching heaviness and punctuated melodic interruptions that act as puzzles in-between the groaning feedback of Garden Window. With Garden Window displaying more density, the songs themselves bask in longer time frames and dynamic intensity the whole way out. Close friends Andy Hull and Robert McDowell of Manchester Orchestra stepped in as producers for Garden Window.

I saw O'Brother play a show in Salt Lake City with the likes of Thrice, The Dear Hunter, and Manchester Orchestra. I was an instant fan. In my opinion, they outshined Manchester and were just as entertaining live as The Dear Hunter and Thrice, which is saying a lot. Their sound is gritty, low, chunky but also harmonic, smooth and deep. (I know, you're probably like "chunky" and "smooth"? They're a band, not peanut butter! Just give them a listen. That's the best I could come up with.) They go from heavy, earsplitting rock to gentle, melodic harmonies--and it sounds amazing. If you are a fan of melodic rock, heavy percussion, intricate harmonies and music with seemingly infinite layers of sounds, this band is for you.
